EXTRUSION LINES AND ACCESSORIES -- OVERVIEW

PLASTICS EXTRUDERS, MELT PUMPS, GEARTRUDERS® , SCREWS. Exceptionally rugged and reliable extruders, melt pumps, and GEARTRUDERS (extruders with integrally mounted gear pumps) . May use 1/4 DIN discrete controllers, multi-zone controllers, or DIGIPANEL® controllers with a 15" full-color LCD display, for TOTAL control of an extrusion line of any type. The Harrel DUOSENSE®, deep-and-shallow-well sensing system is recommended for all barrel zones. Automated setting of trim values with Harrel AUTOTRIM® is optional for all temperature zones.

EXTRUDERS AND SCREWS

GEARTRUDERS® -- Extruders with integrally mounted gear pumps.

MELT PUMP SYSTEMS

MELT PUMPS STABILIZE EXTRUDER THROUGHPUT. The throughput stability of an extruder used alone is relatively poor -- typically 5% to 8% over a period of time. For any type of precision extrusion, or where automated control is desired, therefore, a precision melt pump should be used to meter the throughput to a stability of 0.1% typical. Melt pumps also increase output and lower the melt temperature -- important for degradable polymers. Harrel was a pioneer in adapting melt pumps for extrusion use. For new installations the melt pump control can be an integral part of the DIGIPANEL controller. For existing installations, an upgrade system can be added.

TUBING AND PROFILE EXTRUSION SYSTEMS

Turnkey tubing and profile extrusion systems. Plus a complete line of extrusion components and accessories -- extruders, melt pumps, GEARTRUDERS®, extruder screws, dies, cooling troughs, vacuum sizing tanks, laser diameter gauges, pullers, cutters, and classifying conveyors. TUBETROL® gives automated, closed loop control of OD, ID, and length of extruded tubing. BUMP TUBETROL, DOUBLE BUMP TUBETROL, and TRIPLE BUMP TUBETROL give automated, closed loop control of OD, ID, and length of each segment. LIGHTSOUT system gives three shift operation with only two shifts of personnel. MIXTRUDER combines mixing equal to twin screw extruder with TUBETROL system. TUBETROL-PLUS adds automated closed loop control of viscosity, especially for polyurethanes and similar, critical plastics..

ACCESSORIES FOR TUBING AND PROFILE EXTRUSION LINES

UPGRADES FOR EXISTING TUBING AND PROFILE LINES

MONITORING OF SHEET THICKNESS AND AUTOMATED CONTROL OF SHEET PROFILE -- FOR NEW SHEET LINES, OR FOR UPGRADES TO EXISTING ONES

The Harrel SHEETROL®  process is a fully automated series of closed loop controls providing control of both the machine direction thickness and the cross-machine thickness profile for sheet systems of any manufacturer.

INSTRUMENTATION

EXTRUSION LINE TEMPERATURE CONTROL for extrusion lines of any manufacturer. Harrel developed the plastics industry's first 3-mode (PID) temperature controllers in 1967, the industry's first plant-wide supervisory control system in 1968, and the industry's first microprocessor extrusion controller in 1975, All Harrel extruder temperature controllers are available with DUOSENSE® -- the deep-and-shallow-well extruder barrel temperature control system invented by Harrel. All may also have AUTOTRIM®, the Harrel system for automated setting of trim values.

Sizes are 1/4 DIN (4" x 4") for single  channel heating only or heating and cooling, 1/4 DIN dual channel heating only, the CP-644 20 zone, and the CP-875 60 channel multi-zone controller, with 15"full color LCD graphics display. Adding CP-540 expansion modules to the CP-875 allows control of any number of zones, even into the hundreds!

A complete line of precision temperature sensors are also offered.

GENERAL PURPOSE INDUSTRIAL TEMPERATURE CONTROLLERS.

Harrel introduced the industry's first solid state PID temperature controllers into the plastics industry in 1967 and has continuously improved them ever since

MOTOR DRIVES & MOTOR SPEED CONTROL

VISCOSITY MEASUREMENT AND CONTROL.

The trouble with most melt indexers and rheometers is that their measurements are typically made under conditions far different from those actually encountered in extrusion or injection molding. The Harrel VISCOTRUDER makes its measurement under real world conditions because measurements are made using an actual extruder!

SPECIALTY INSTRUMENTATION

UPGRADES TO IMPROVE PERFORMANCE OF EXISTING EXTRUSION LINES OF ANY TYPE

UPGRADES OF EXISTING PLASTICS EXTRUSION LINES; DIGIPANEL® control systems for total control of extrusion lines made by any manufacturer, melt pump upgrades to attain 0.1% stability in throughput, Upgrades of straight tubing lines for bump tubing, double bump tubing, or triple bump tubing, featuring automated control of OD, ID, and length of each stage. Upgrades of existing sheet lines to add close control of thickness, both in the machine direction and in the cross-machine profile.

STATISTICAL QUALITY CONTROL

Harrel introduced the plastic industry's first plant-wide supervisory management and control system in 1968 and was a pioneer in adapting the Deming Statistical Quality Control concepts to extrusion systems. Complete monitoring and control of all lines from central console and existing desktop departmental computers.

CUSTOMER SUPPORT, TRAINING COURSES, AND SEMINARS....

One of the most important factors in selecting a vendor is customer service, both before and after delivery of the product. Harrel offers outstanding service in both categories. And the most important factor (frequently overlooked) in operating an extrusion line is training -- of the operators, the maintenance personnel, engineers, and supervisors. Harrel offers a complete range of training programs -- both on-site and at the Harrel Plastics Development Laboratory.
