Dr. Chris Rauwendaal, of Rauwendaal Extrusion Engineering, is probably the best known of all consultants operating in the extrusion field. He is almost certainly the most prestigious. He has for over twelve years taught extrusion technology at twice-yearly seminars at Harrel, Incorporated, and at countless shows and SPE seminars as well. He is the author of several books on extrusion, statistical quality control, and mixing technology, and was the author behind one of the best known video courses in the field for many years.
Now Dr. Rauwendaal has authored a comprehensive interactive training course. Such a format has enormous advantages over videos, seminars, or virtually any other form of instruction in that the student can proceed at his own pace. Further, he can spread the training over as long a period as he would like and can go back over parts he would like to concentrate on as often as he pleases.
The course comes on 7 CD-ROM's, divided into separate headings, covering the various topics involved in the extrusion process.
The ITXtrude section is a simulation package involving all of the parameters of the extrusion process -- shear rate, solids conveying, melting rate,drag and pressure flow rates, etc. It allows the student to simulate his process and determine the effect of changes in operating parameters. It is an extremely valuable tool in understanding how an extrusion line works and, in particular, how to optimize its performance.
The ITX course is available as a standard accessory with the Harrel CC-620 Plant-Wide Control and Management Consoles. It is also available as a separate package, either with an appropriate computer, or for operation on an existing Windows-based computer. The price, for the ITX course alone, is $5000.00. It should be noted that there is no cost penalty in purchasing the package through Harrel.
