Precision Measurement of Thickness of Sheet, Pipe, Blown Film, or Profile
TM-601 Thickness Gauge
- TG-601 gamma backscatter thickness gauge Requires access to only one side of extrudate
- Handles much thicker materials than beta types -- from 1 mil up to 1", or even 2" thickness (with reduced accuracy).
- Measures thickness of sheet, pipe, blown film, or profiles on line.
- Gamma type far more stable than conventional beta gauge -
0.25% per 24 hours. Does not require standardization every few minutes, as beta gauges do.
- Much lower levels of radiation than beta gauges. Entirely safe for general purpose use, with normal safety precautions.
- Entirely digital -- no analog integrators to drift.
- Not affected by changes in humidity, smoke, or opacity of extrudate, as some other gauges are.
- Harrel TG-601 Sensing Head features 100 mC Americium-241. Same isotope as used in many smoke detectors.
- Long life. Half-life of 455 years!
- Accuracy:
- 0-125 mil range: Accuracy 0.1 mil or 0.5% of reading (whichever is greater)
- 0-500 mil range: Accuracy 1 mil, or 1% of range (whichever is greater)
Prices:
TM-601 Thickness Probe plus Digital Readout: $19,985.00
Dual Thickness Gauge for Measurement of Coating or Layer Thickness
- For coating applications or where Tandem Extrusion is used.
- Consists of a microprocessor-based electronics package with two or more TG-601 measurement heads.
- Considerably more accurate than using multiple discrete gauges.
- Less expensive, too!
- "Smart" traverses available which ensure multiple heads track each other properly
- Harrel systems with as many as 4 coordinated measuring heads have been made.
Prices:
TG-620 Dual Thickness Gauge: $29,600.00
"Smart" Traverse for Sheet
- Extremely rugged, yet precise, mechanism for moving gauge heads back and forth across the sheet to measure the profile in the cross-machine direction.
- Break-away mechanism prevents damage if thick section comes through.
- Off-sheet position allows easy string-up.
- Also available with "JACKRABBIT" action.
- Conventional traverse moves at constant speed across sheet. Very wasteful, since most of the time is spent between die bolt positions, even though the only portions of scan that are really of interest are those opposite die bolts, for it is only there that the die can be adjusted.
- Patented JACKRABBIT traverse moves at maximum slewing speed from one die bolt position to the next, dwelling at each die bolt position long enough to ensure a good measurement.
- Time required for a complete traverse is considerably reduced.
- Also has a uniform scan mode which can be used every once in a while to make sure there are no high or low spots between the basic die bolt positions.
Prices
TM-600 Traverse with uniform traverse speed. Widths to 6 feet: $9,960.00
TM-601 JACKRABBIT traverse for much faster response: Widths to 6 feet: $11,942.00
Width beyond 6 feet: $200 per foot.
Harrel Pipe Traverse
- Moves gauge around the periphery of the pipe so the concentricity of the pipe may be measured.
- Break-away mechanism protects head from damage, if a pipe comes through off-center.
- Thick steel shield protects personel from stray radiation.
- Also available with JACKRABBIT characteristic.
Prices:
RM-610 Pipe Traverse -- uniform travel. Handles up to 6" dia pipe $16,875.00
RM-611 Pipe Traverse -- JACKRABBIT travel. Handles up to 6" Diameter: $18,100.00
Water Cooled Head.
In pipe extrusion or heavy section sheet extrusion, it is frequently desirable to mount the gauge head in a location which will cause head temerature to exceed 150 degrees F. In such a case, the WJ-600 water jacket is an ideal solution. It completely encloses the gauge head, and the circulating water ensures that the safe head temperature will never be exceeded.
Prices:
WJ-600 Water cooled jacket for TG-601: $1200.00
Temperature Controlled Head
The standard gauge head will maintain its specifications over the normal temperatures encountered in plastics plants. If extremely wide variations of temperature are encountered, however, performance can be improved by holding the gauge temperature constant. The TJ-600 temperature controlled jacket completely encloses the gauge head, and the accompanuing temperature controller ensures that the ambient temperature which the gauge sees is held within 1 degree.
Prices:
TJ-600 Temperature controlled jacket for TG-601 measuring head. Includes separate temperature controller: $1830.00
Sheet Guides
In sheet applications, for plastic, rubber, or paper, it is sometimes convenient to have an off-sheet position to which the gauge may be moved while the line is strung up. The SG-600 sheet guides clamp on the gauge head and ensure that the gauge will not catch on the sheet edges as it moves back on the sheet. It also holds the gauge-to-sheet spacing constant once it is on-sheet.
Prices:
SG-600 Sled type sheet guide. Clamps onto TG-601 measuring head: $760.00
Roller Head
The RH-600 rollerhead is another style of positioning device which can be used. When the mechanism is clamped onto the gauge head, the plastic roller ensures that the spacing is held constant without fear of scratching the sheet.
Prices:
RH-600 Rollerhead. Clamps onto TG-601 measuring head: $985.00
Flattening Ring
For blown film extrusion, and some other kinds of work, it is desired to flatten out the product over a sizeable area in such a way that the spacing is maintained constant. This can be done by using a flattening ring of either 6" (FR-606) or 12"(FR-612) diameter.
Prices:
FR-606 Flattening ring. 6" diameter: $690.00
FR-612 Flattening ring. 12" diameter: $735.00
